Statement: I take a practical, commonsense approach to counseling. Most of my work is with adults although I do see the occasional adolescent. I pay particularly close attention to relationships and family dynamics, but see people with a wide range of problems such as depression and anxiety as well as alcoholism and other addictive disorders.
I have particular expertise in working with women whose partners are resistant to counseling and the men with whom they are involved. Very often, when a woman develops the emotional strength to approach her relationship with a greater sense of self-confidence her husband or boyfriend will overcome his reluctance and join her in therapy. Once this initial obstacle has been cleared, these men frequently become receptive to the treatment process and motivated to make changes within themselves and the manner in which they treat their loved ones.
The goal for everyone that I see—regardless of whether I am working with a woman who needs to become more self-assertive, or a man who needs to develop more sensitivity to the needs of others, or someone who does not fall into either one of these patterns—is to develop a better sense of self and a greater sense of satisfaction in their lives.
